RINGING TRUE
Four ancient rabbis. One wedding scam. What’s a girl to do?
Ringing True is Rebecca’s most whimsical and personal show. This a one-woman musical with a live band premiered in January 2016 at Miami Theater Center, with funding from the Knight Foundation. The show ran for three weeks, to box office and critical acclaim. The Miami Herald calls Ringing True“a tour de force” in which Rebecca presents a “unique voice that’s universal in its appeal.”
Written and performed by Rebecca in collaboration with Miami director Michael Yawney and acclaimed off-Broadway music director and arranger Bob Goldstone, Ringing True tells the almost true story of how Rebecca was given the best con of her life. When an old woman hands her a brass wedding ring, it sets Rebecca off on a tilt-a-whirl odyssey across Paris, and leads her to find true gold. The characters she meets range from ancient Talmudic rabbis to a chic Parisian dominatrix, each singing in his or her own signature style — and all played by Rebecca herself.
The show’s music is heart-moving and eclectic, ranging from rockabilly to Hassidic prayer chants to chanson; it’s played by a quirky and stirring three-piece band (accordion, guitar, and violin.) Ringing True was first developed in Chicago thanks to a Wexner Foundation collaboration grant, with MT Cozolla as director, Stuart Rosenberg as music director and composer, and Anita La Salva as dramaturg. The show is now available for touring and new productions!
